I was the sixth of eight people in my family who attended Arneckeville Grammar School. It was a two room schoolhouse which is still there being used as a community center. It was really great. We used to have recess in the morning, lunch, and afternoon breaks. That is when we went outside and played various games like softball, soccer, prison base, wolf-across-the-river, and hardball. Early on, in 1950, there were only about eighteen students until another school, Green DeWitt, closed and their students came to school which brought the enrollment to around thirty. Before the Christmas break we had an evening event with parents where we enacted Bible stories of the birth of Jesus. The nearby store called
